Sarah’s Marvelous Rock Collection

There once was a curly-haired little girl named Sarah who loved to collect rocks. She liked small rocks that could fit in her pocket, large rocks that were too heavy for her to lift by herself, and everything in between. She liked grey rocks, black rocks, and the pink, yellow, and blue rocks that she found in the bank of the river. She liked pretty rocks with swirly designs and creepy rocks the looked like skulls.

Sarah’s parents did not love how much much room these rocks began taking up in their yard, but they saw how happy the rocks made Sarah and so they allowed her to continue her collection. Even Sarah’s closest friends questioned her bizarre obsession.

“What do you want all these rocks for anyways?” a friend asked of her one day as she helped Sarah carry some of the rocks she collected from the park home. “What are you going to do with all of them?”

“I’m not sure yet,” Sarah replied, taking a moment to think about it. “Maybe one day I will be a famous rock collector.”

Every time one of Sarah’s friends found an amazing rock they made sure to save it for her. Over time her rock collection grew larger than she ever could have imagined. They barely fit in her back yard anymore, and she spent hours each week polishing and organizing her treasures. Every rock had a story, and Sarah remembered them all. Her rocks made her happy because they reminded her of the adventures she had been on and the loved ones who helped her collect them all.

As Sarah started to grow older she realized it was no longer practical to keep all of her beloved rocks. It would be too hard to move them all and to find a place big enough to fit them. Grief stricken, she knew it was finally time to get rid of them.

“Unless…” she thought to herself as an idea came to her. She had finally realized the perfect plan which would allow her to keep her beloved rock collection forever.

Sarah worked hard for months on end putting her plan into action. Sarah built herself a house made out of her precious rocks not far from where her parents lived. She studied hard to make sure it would be sturdy enough to live in.

Sarah had so many rocks that when she finished building her house, there were still leftover rocks to use. She built a beautiful rock garden, and continued to add all the new rocks she would find to her ever-growing masterpiece. As word of mouth spread, visitors from all around the world would come to see her marvelous rock collection. She had become a famous rock collector after all.
